Drink Coffee and you won’t have to squint to read the newspaper

A new study shows that coffee may combat deteriorating eyesight and may even help prevent blindness:

“Published in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, the study describes how coffee contains a chemical compound called chlorogenic acid (CLA makes up 7%-9% of the average beverage, compared to 1% caffeine). CLA, in turn, is an antioxidant that has shown it can prevent retinal degeneration in mice.”

11 Health Benefits of Coffee

Feeling Stressed? Apparently just the smell of coffee can help relieve it.

Researchers at the Seoul National University examined the brains of rats who were stressed with sleep deprivation and discovered that those who were exposed to coffee aromas experienced changes in brain proteins tied to that stress. Note, this aroma study doesn’t relate to stress by itself, only to the stress felt as a result of sleep deprivation. Now, we’re not entirely sure if this means you should keep a bag of roasted coffee beans on your nightstand every night, but feel free to try!
